Especially since we don't see any other shinobi in the whole game following the code, or acknowledging its existence.Game Reviews | FAQ | Guidelines | guilded.gg/sekiro Useful Links Notice how quickly he goes straight to Owl? Leads me to think that maybe the whole Iron Code business was just Owl's way to manipulate Wolf into being a servant. Isshin: Ah, the Iron Code of the Shinobi.? I see. What I wonder, is whether the Iron code was even really a thing. It's important to remember here that we aren't playing as the typical good guy, Wolf is walking a thin line between good and evil the entire game. Those who don't pay attention to it or don't understand Wolf's and Kuro's relationship really do kill just for the sake of it, enjoying boss battles but not knowing why they have to fight. Wolf is a blank enough character that players can make this choice to partially reflect their own view of the story. I'd say the ending is fine, if a bit difficult to truly understand why it happens. He kills for the sake of killing, there's no other goal. Sekiro not only loses any reason for his actions and killing, but he also flips his allegiance completely, throwing away all the purpose. He will kill if ordered, and there's nothing beyond that. ![]() Because a "side" doesn't matter - he does what he's told to do. Then Owl comes along, and Sekiro agrees to take Kuro's immortality for power - the exact reason his enemies have had the whole time. Sekiro fought Genichiro for this reason, twice. Kuro's whole goal was to get rid of immortality so that it doesn't seduce and corrupt people. He now follows the previously broken Iron Code, betrays the only person that he's been helping and that treats him as a friend, and flips his entire allegiance upside down. Join with Owl later on, betray Kuro, and Sekiro's morality compass shatters. He finally has a higher purpose for his actions. He forms a bond with Kuro, and from that point on, he fights and kills for Kuro's sake. At that moment, Sekiro breaks the Iron Code, which is a gigantic shift in his personality towards finding a more noble goal in his life. When you rescue Kuro, he asks you to help him. You can see in multiple bossfights that Sekiro doesn't need much to draw his blade, and has no issues slaughtering people who are simply in his way, never attempting to talk his way out of situations. He isn't meant to ask questions or pursue diplomacy. Sculptor warns him from succumbing to it. Sekiro has been on the verge of becoming Shura the entire game, Isshin tells you several times that Wolf is unpleasant, anti-social, with a shadow of Shura in his eyes. It's not as much about enjoying the killing, though I know where you got that impression, but more that killing itself is the ultimate goal.
